Caity’s House by BuildHer Collective is a house of natural warmth, in the physical definition, but also in the many intangible ways that make a house a home. It is beautiful, no doubt, and that enhances the sense of welcome.

The design of the impeccable period renovation and extension, with many original flourishes retained, is the excellent work of architects Bellemo & Cat and built in collaboration with BuildHer Collective and Beirin Projects. The bedrooms and bathrooms are restrained yet sumptuous. Luxury here is in the detail. A showpiece of this family home, among many, is the expansive, naturally lit kitchen, dining and family area, with a sunken living zone opposite the marble and oak kitchen. In the northerly garden is an in-ground swim-spa.

The Bastings Street home creates an overwhelming feeling of space. Rooms, transitions and doorways develop a sense of generosity and allow flow and light to permeate throughout this beautiful home.

Shapes develop playfully within the home, providing elements of interest without crowding or losing connection to the home’s spirit. Contrasting levels present interesting corners and private spaces for one to achieve solitude within, and a floating black staircase brings a sculptural edge. Floor to ceiling windows also welcome natural elements inside the home.

A grooved, oak island bench shows exquisite craftsmanship and brings textural richness to the kitchen, whilst a sleek marble top and black accents radiate sophistication. Polished concrete floors are elegant and spare, giving the home breathing space and allowing bolder elements to be revealed.

The sophisticated floor plan flows naturally through to an expansive entertaining area. Intelligent updates to adjacent areas make the most of the north-facing garden and allow enchanting light play in the back living area. The smart swimming pool and styled edges of the garden combine with established trees to create an inviting outdoor space.
