GlobeWest Release Their 2019 Range - Collections Volume #02
Melbourne, VIC, Australia
Australian design-focused furniture brand GlobeWest has released Collections 2019 Volume #02. Encompassing seven individual new collections and over 200 new designs and colours created to bring a sense of calm and clarity into every aspect of the home.
The seven new collections are the latest chapter in GlobeWest’s story, which began in Melbourne in 2005 when brothers and co-founders Alan and Stephen Mendel launched the brand. The start of their story began much earlier, however, in the beautiful Western Cape of South Africa where the brothers grew up, absorbing their parents’ passion for handcrafted and antique furniture that they restored for their family home.
From these early days observing their parents’ love of furniture design to the launch of the brand 15 years ago and now the release of Collections Volume #02 in 2019, GlobeWest has been driven by a commitment to inspiring creativity and delivering design diversity. “We are so grateful that our customers trust us to provide stylish interior solutions across so many design aesthetics. No matter the building’s heritage or characteristics, or the homeowners’ personal style and tastes, GlobeWest can fulfil their furniture brief. We’re pretty proud of that!”, reflects Stephen Mendel.
The concept of calm design was integral to the GlobeWest in-house product development and design team’s process creating Volume #02 given Australian’s continual quest for harmony, health and happiness in the home. “The ongoing influence of nature is undeniable, with muted earthy tones, raw finishes and handcrafted elements featuring strongly”, says Keti Lytras, GlobeWest Design Manager.
“Comfort is everything with rounded forms and ultra-cushioning creating a personal cocoon within our homes, while an eclectic mix of modern and retrospective silhouettes and colours create a sense of familiarity”, she continues. “Totemic silhouettes in brushed metal work in unison with leather upholstery, whilst tweed makes a contemporary resurgence. Fine, arched and balanced framing feed our need to simplify and declutter.”
GlobeWest Collections 2019 Volume #02 includes upholstered sofas, occasional chairs, dining chairs, tables and case goods, outdoor furniture and homewares, offering the opportunity for clients to create a consistent aesthetic throughout the entire home. Each of the newly released collections brings its own interpretation on form and function, with strong textural, tactile qualities.
The Sonny collection uses louvred facades in a rhythmic repetition of horizontal lines creating a coastal aesthetic in natural oak or offering more minimalist appeal in black. The Aurelia collection combines the beauty of handcrafted imperfection with the sophistication of metal and glass with its hammered brass tapered legs and classic glass table tops.
Austin, in contrast, is inspired by country style combined with a classic sophistication crafted with inset detail in a masculine matt black oak or timeless grey or white ash. The Brigette collection, meanwhile, works with a strong geometric curved form in black steel paired with either a black or white terrazzo top encapsulating a subtle Art Deco influence.
Pops of sophisticated colour in muted teal and terracotta, peacock or mustard add vitality and excitement to a space against a neutral palette. Luxurious materials such as velvet, brass and supple leather imbue statement pieces with just the right amount of richness, while designs such as the Woodland Low Bowl Stool, Avery Bedhead and Occasional Chair in rattan bring a handcrafted 1970s familiarity into the space.
The Orlando collection takes comfort and the principle of form follows function to new heights with double-pillowed seating and the inviting insouciance of slouch fabric upholstery.
In contrast, the structured Art-Deco inspired opulence of the velvet Dahlia chair and barstool or the Frankie occasional chair highlight that the 2019 Collections Volume #02 truly covers the length and breadth of design.
Leather sofas in desert-inspired tones of tan, olive and terracotta add a grounded, natural sensibility to the timeless Humphrey range. The Sinclair collection of sofas, daybeds and armchairs combine a striking geometric curved or square form with mid-century tones of salmon and sea mist or the quiet, classic cosiness of tweed with a contemporary twist.
Luxurious rugs and contemporary ottomans are designed for layering among key pieces such as sofas and occasional chairs. These upholstery pieces cover the range of aesthetics and styles to harmonise with the diversity of the entirety of the Collection Volume #02, but all share an inviting sense of comfort and quality.
This is a reflection of GlobeWest’s philosophy that emphasises the value of professional design. Just as they offer a service connecting customers with interior professionals, the diversity of designs available in the new collections are a testament to their commitment to offering well-designed products to enrich Australian homes and commercial spaces.
