Clean geometric architecture and a restrained palette of materials are the design hallmarks of this luxury residence in Lindfield New South Wales. Located on a sprawling suburban block overlooking natural bushland, the residence sits quietly within its context; a collection of cubic forms and framed apertures informed by the brutalist volumes of the historic neighbouring UTS Kuring-Gai campus.
Behind a monolithic steel door with custom feature handle, the ground floor plane opens to a timber and glass stair that soars towards the second floor sleeping quarters. Two FLOS String Light Spheres trapeze across the ceiling drawing the eye up into the two-storey void. Polished concrete floors pour through the open plan living spaces uniting their uses and creating a sturdy backdrop for busy family life. A guest bedroom slash library and second family bathroom peel off the entry with boutique study nook alongside.

Elementary joinery throughout follows the exterior architectural expression with a restrained palette of materials related by a consistent metal detail. The heart of the home is grounded in an epicurean kitchen, elegantly finished in moody textured stone contrasting an extensive timber services pod that beautifully softens the predominant solid forms. Cloaked behind the floor to ceiling timber hides a walk-through butler’s pantry directly connected to a full-size laundry. Fringed by glass and veiled in soft fabric, the family lounge is exclusive and comfortable. A bank of linear veneered storage floats effortlessly above a polished plaster plinth with central gas fireplace focussing attention from the screen above.
The upper level seems to float above full height perimeter glazing, containing an expansive master bedroom with walk in robe, ensuite bathroom and full-length screened balcony. Three generous bedrooms radiate around a central family bathroom, each delighting in composed aspects towards the south west. A blackened steel box accommodates the central circulation – receding from the main façade – with a cage of dark aluminium encasing a rooftop terrace. Dark textured timber floors flow throughout the upper level with a counterpoint of polished plaster walls reflecting ample natural light. Custom marble basins form a structured centre point to the bathrooms with satin stainless-steel fixtures popping brightly. Umber-toned veneer offsets the bright marble against a backdrop of clean tiles and sharp detailing.

Externally a deep wrap-around swimming pool borders the living space, the water’s sparkling reflection animating interior spaces while providing passive cooling through. Operable doors extend the kitchen and dining zone onto a sheltered terrace with landscaped lawn and timber deck offering copious space for relaxation and play. A palette of white envelops the building, contrasting against the surrounding bushland colours and Sydney’s iconic blue sky; with framing in black emphasizing the clean geometric lines of the architectural form.
