DENFAIR Concludes an Inspiring Weekend of Design in Sydney
The latest in design, from furniture to lighting, textiles and bathware, as well as a selection of contemporary art, was on display to the industry professionals and design-lovers who visited over the weekend.
Co-founder, Thibaud Cau-Cecile, reflected that DENFAIR Sydney was a taste of the extensive Melbourne event that resonated with Sydney audiences. “We encourage all who enjoyed the Sydney edition to make DENFAIR Melbourne 2019 part of their calendar and gain the full DENFAIR experience,” said Thibaud.
Artedomus’ New Volumes collection was on display and won the DENFAIR award for best large stand. A stunning selection of pieces by eight local designers, including Ross Gardam, Emma Elizabeth and Tom Skeehan, curated by Thomas Coward, New Volumes features beautiful objects all crafted from a single material – Elba, a natural stone with distinctive grey and white markings and smooth finish.
Best small stand was won by New Zealand design studio ANAESTHETIC, who showcased a lighting collection made in Melbourne. Meanwhile, Arthur Koutoulas’ lounge space created with clusters of fleshy-pink with Joyce foam was a popular installation, blurring the boundaries between furniture and sculpture.
The 60th anniversary of Arne Jacobsen’s most iconic designs The Egg, The Swan and The Drop was celebrated by Cult Design’s Fritz Hansen stand, inspired by the SAS Royal Hotel for which the chairs were originally designed. Cult were awarded the Best International Product for the newly released Pot chair.
Alongside the stands and design on display, King Furniture’s ambassador Neale Whittaker hosted two design panels, one for the trade audience and one for the public. Tom Fereday and Charles Wilson took part in the panel, discussing their inspiration and their perception of global design movement.
DENFAIR Sydney was a chance for the design community to come together and enjoy the latest inspiration and work from some of Australia’s leading local designers.
