St Michael’s Grammar School by Christopher Elliott Design is an educational interior design project located in the Victorian suburb of St Kilda.
When first asked to redesign the interiors of three buildings for St Michaels Grammar School, Christopher Elliott and his team were a little overwhelmed, but soon found inspiration in the heritage style architecture. Hewison House, the administration building for the school, includes both; the main reception, and principals office, all of which required a careful approach to the design, taking into account the school’s historical past and progressive attitude to learning. The studio formed a design language using iconic materials to evoke the qualities of; knowledge, establishment, transparency and excellence.
