Monash Nature Walk
by Urban Initiatives
A unique walking experience within Monash University of Clayton.
Open in 2016, the Monash Tan and Nature Walk was designed by Urban Initiatives, as a peaceful escape from urban culture, within the Monash University grounds in Clayton, Victoria.
With a 200 metre long elevated boardwalk; which provides an engaging pedestrian entry experience to the campus from Blackburn Road, the nature walk captures the real natural beauty of Australia’s raw and rustic environment.
It’s a peaceful hideaway from the outside urban culture, which surrounds the university grounds.
Passing over the Jock Marshall Reserve the boardwalk is carefully sited to pass through the canopies of existing trees and provide elevated views into the research facility and wetland.
The challenge for designers was to create a structure, which sits seamlessly within the natural surrounding landscape, without compromising the environmental values or important research function of the site
With the use of natural woods and organic colours throughout, designers have created a valuable space which plays homage to an Australian Landscape.
