6 Degrees

Established in 1992, Six Degrees is one of Australia’s leading architectural practices. 6 Degrees Architects work across residential, masterplanning & place making, aged care & community, office & workplace, hotels & hospitality, and education; delivering design solutions for new and heritage places. They develop planning and design strategies for large public and private clients to create new urban places and to activate underperforming civic precincts. The founding principle of Six Degrees is to address human needs through the built form. 6 Degrees design functional, aesthetic and sustainable environments that are commercially smart. This approach has made them a specialist in creating high-use places that vary in both application and scale, and that are consummate performers. When six architecture graduates shared a studio space in Richmond, Melbourne, in the early 1990s it marked the genesis of Six Degrees. The group collaborated on small residential and commercial commissions, public sculpture and architectural competitions. As they debated a name for the practice, the temperature on the nearby iconic Nylex clock read an icy 6°. The name stuck and Six Degrees was born.
