'Tis The Season

Sydney, NSW, Australia

Jessica Eva

We’re not sure how we got here already but it seems that the Holiday Season is already upon us. Where did 2017 go! As the mood shifts to celebration it is prime time to ensure that your home is ready to host all of those summer gatherings that are in store. Our guide covers the pieces, great and small, that will make sure you are prepared for any occasion throughout the ‘Silly Season’ and beyond.

It’s the bigger pieces of furniture that carry that sense of celebration, what would Christmas day be without gathering around the dinner table with friends and family, or New Year’s Eve without piling onto the couch with your guests to watch the countdown.

There’s no better time to invest in (or hint heavily to ‘Santa’) key pieces that will play an integral part in this year’s celebrations but also be the basis for many memories to be made in future. Our ideal Christmas list includes the Louis Sofa by CM Studio for Project 82, which can be customised to compliment any space. A relaxed slip cover will set the tone for laid back living, whilst a stylish leather will wear in as the years go by or for the ultimate festive look opt for the statement making velvet.

And as it is the season for feasting, a stylish dining setting will play host to many a gathering. The key piece to start with is a solid timber table with elegant clean lines, that will seat everything from elegant soirees to a casual lunch occasion. The Sika Dining Table designed by Tide Design fits this brief to a tee. The perfect combination of a practical 6-8 seater along with the simplicity of smooth shapes and rounded edges which emphasise the exquisite oak grain.

Take the look one step further with a statement pendant, a metallic finish will add a slight air of celebration yet minimal lines will maintain it’s relevance well after the silly season. Our selection is the Highline by Archier, a flash of gold elevates this highly simplistic statement piece and can even play host to a stylish garland should you wish to dress it up for festive occasions. Sprigs of Australian Natives would be perfect for this, taking a modern slant on the traditional theme as well as creating an interesting juxtaposition against the clean lines of the Highline.

It’s the little things that put the finishing touch on your entertaining areas. Put a design forward spin on seasonal accessorising by selecting timeless pieces in tactile materials to add interest to your festive table.

The Armadillo & Co Willow Weave Table Runner will be key to our table centrepiece this season, it’s natural hemp texture is perfect for creating a sense of warmth when positioned beneath the smooth surfaces of crockery and glassware. Runners form the perfect base for shared dining platters and create a sense of unity for the table, perfect for festive gatherings.

Speaking of shared meals, statement bowls and platters are a worthy investment for entertaining especially at this time of year. For an all time classic investment and addition of quintessentially Australian design is a Resin Marble Plater from Dinosaur Designs. Due to their handmade nature, no two platters are the same as each piece holds it’s own unique combination of pattern and colour. The simple organic forms say elegance with ease yet the distinct marbled effect is a bold alternative to a classic ceramic.

And to complete the setting, ensure that no one is left thirsty with Maison Balzac’s mouth blown drinking goblets. A colourful touch of festive cheer is a refreshing alternative to your everyday glassware yet these temperature resistant glasses are durable enough to survive through all of your seasonal events. Select the more muted tones of Pink or Smoke for more subdued palettes or add bolder accents of colour with a combination of Green and Teal. Cheers to that!
