After many years living in London, the busy family of five were keen to return to Sydney and their terrace in the heart of Paddington. A previously dark and gloomy interior has undergone a remarkable transformation into a warm and welcoming home. It is a compact space, yet feels spacious and elegant. Mirrors act to reflect the light and provide an illusion of space in the traditional part of the house which naturally has minimal natural light. Generous drapes frame the narrow windows. Considered placement of colour and furniture balances and harmonises the space. Throughout the home, a focus on natural materials and textures such as leather handles, woven and knotted rugs, wool carpets, and silk linen blend curtains, all evoke a feeling of warmth and cosiness. The modern extension has a quieter aesthetic, with a calming tonal grey palette as the backdrop. The garden is enjoyed as an extension of the living space. The entire first floor is a haven for relaxation, with the master bedroom a restorative sanctuary with its use of a soft grey-green for the walls, and the delicate linen drapes providing privacy and seclusion from the outside world.
