Timeless Essence – Tim Webber’s Meticulous Chair Designs
Crafted in recognition of detailing, form, function and materiality, Tim Webber’s designs emerge from a meticulous process guided by personal design values. Although a rigorous approach is taken in their creation, each collection presents as an effortless work of minimalism, celebrating the power of understated aesthetic.
Every Tim Webber design reflects an individual narrative that begins with Tim finding inspiration in the world around him. Intrigued by a particular detail or form, Tim will explore the matter through his chosen craft of chairmaking, creating pieces that either embody or utilise the concept. Using detail to control the expression of ideas, Tim ensures that each chair clearly articulates its original inspiration.
Sitting at the intersection of visual elegance and physical comfort, Tim’s designs embody the combined values of form and function. The Grayson Chair – a plush, sophisticated piece – emphasises a curving silhouette within the context of richness and indulgence. A slender steel frame juxtaposes rounded feather and foam upholstery, the shape of which is then enhanced by delicate lines of stitching. The Vita Chair, however, is a contemporary design with slender features, supported by a 360-degree swivel base. Available in either a standard or high-back variation, the chair can also be supplied with an optional mounted side table to produce a modest, portable working station. Similarly, Otto Chair offers compact utility alongside an elegant profile. The sweeping lines of the piece are primarily created by its sculpted foam shell designed to support the small of a back, establishing a chair that can be occupied for hours in comfort.
Dedicated to the longevity of his pieces, Tim uses high-quality fabrics and leathers that can stand the test of time. The Walker Chair – a lavish piece consisting of voluminous cushions set atop a slender, bent steel frame – expresses a quality of craft through material options for both frame and fabric. Meanwhile, the Vita Chair is made from sustainable materials including latex foam, wool cushioning, timber certified by the Forest Stewardship Council and recyclable steel. For every sale of Vita Chair, Tim Webber contributes $100 to For The Love of Bees in honour of the original client, the Comvita Wellness Lab in Auckland City.
