Burwood Road Offices
by Idle Architecture Studio
A visually striking and dynamic new workplace on Burwood Road in Melbourne.
Burwood Road Offices is a well thought out design of a modern contemporary workplace, fused with an industrial outlay.
The result of this stunning mix of modern design is an insertion of a visually striking and dynamic addition to the streetscape, engaging with the surround environment of Burwood Road in Melbourne, and creating a unique modern workplace.
Designers of Burwood Road Offices; Idle Architecture Studio, broke the design of this building into three parts, in an attempt to reduce any visual bulk of the design, and also responds to the various opportunities and constraints of the site.
At ground level, the corner is eroded, and a forecourt / outdoor space has been introduced, which extends the public realm, activating the street by visually and physically engaging with Burwood Road, at a pedestrian level.
Levels one and two, act as a further expression of this forecourt design, with the truss form aiming to reduce structure below, which maxims the amenity of the open public space.
In addition, concrete was included into the final interior design and architectural outlay of the building’s design, which acts as a screen and provides a degree of privacy, along with sun shading to the lower levels.
Upper levels of the building consist of fully glazed curtain walls, making use of the 360degree outlook and Melbourne city views. And the lift and stair core have been offset to the east, in order to allow for maximum flexibility when considering the extended internal layout of the whole building design.
With the interior design consisting of cold concrete grey meshed with start blacks and deep, rich coloured timber, this office block is a refreshing retake on how even a workplace can be an interesting work of architectural design.
