Light Saw House
by Zen Architects
A contemporary design of sustainable architecture to an existing double fronted Edwardian weatherboard house.
Designed by Zen Architects, the Light Saw House responds to the clients needs to refresh the existing house which had been owned for some time, but not lived in for fifteen years, whilst the owners were overseas.
To accomplish the project requirements, the original house design was retained and retro-fitted in a way which allowed for the design to exceed current building standard, with a compact extension to the rear of the house addresses the need to bring light and warmth over the top of the existing house.
Volumes throughout, created by the architects, allow for a compact floor plan which feels generous and in proportion with the original house, without overshadowing the south facing backyard. All new rooms have been connected to the environment, through views to the sky and adjacent landscaped gardens.
Both recycled and recyclable materials were used throughout the design, with existing external brick paving, paths and garden beds salvaged and re0imagined internally to allow for better connection to the garden and wet areas.
Key trees were retained and protected during construction and now thrive within the newly designed landscape environment of the property.
