Roseville House
by Anna Carin Design
The driving concept of the Roseville House by Anna Carin Design was to create beautiful spaces of silence and noise.
The owner of this Federation style home on Sydney’s North Shore was a cellist for the Sydney Symphony Orchestra that required a space for practice as well as quiet contemplation away from the busier family areas of the home. Anna Carin Design was asked to create a home that was timeless yet contemporary, composed and serene.
The front lounge and adjoining music room were striped of the existing carpet, fireplace surround, drapes and light-fittings. The exposed timber floors were then sanded and stained dark to ground the room. It was important for Anna Carin Design to modernise the house whilst celebrating it’s beautiful artisan features.
The rooms had great proportions and high ceilings with beautiful detailing so Anna-Carin McNamara and her team wanted to highlight those by painting walls and all woodwork same colour to give uniformity. This provided a canvas to then bring in few selected pieces so as not to crowd the room. The new ceiling pendant and rug bring the other pieces together and wraps the room in warmth. The clients now have a room for conversation, music, reading and contemplation in front of the fireplace, a room without TV and other distractions.
The hallway leads through to the kitchen and family room toward the back of the house. The new open layout better serves the daily rituals of a contemporary family with a connection between the Kitchen, Family room and study desk for the kids.
