Bespoke Living – Sera Brighton by Lowe Living

Honouring the heritage of such a historical location, Sera Brighton stands as a luxurious and bespoke project by Lowe Living. Designed in collaboration with award-winning architect Warren and Mahoney, leading landscape architect Jack Merlo and interior design consultant Bec Judd, the one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments seamlessly combine the rich history of Brighton with sophisticated, contemporary design.

Embodying exclusive coastal living, Sera Brighton features a cohesive material palette and references the arched forms that echo the building’s character. Principal at Warren Mahoney and lead designer Nick Deans explains, “we wanted to create an opportunity to reinvigorate the local high street while building on the existing building that was made up of arched formations and layered with brickwork – we took that as a cue for the design of the new building.”

The apartment building is therefore both timeless and sensitive to its past. Founder and managing director at Lowe Living, Emma Lowe notes, “one of the most important things to us is trying to create an architectural legacy – and that isn’t just for the residents that reside within the building but is for anyone who comes in contact with one of our buildings and Sera Brighton is no exception.”

Upon first glance, Sera Brighton captivates with its distinctive arched design, three-tier podium and striking geometry, enhanced by textured white brickwork, bronze framing and sleek concrete balustrades. Interior design consultant Bec Judd notes, “the interior and external elements really complement each other in this project, with curved design features added in the apartment such as a curved tundra handle on the TV joinery unit, the curved leg on the island bench and the domed pendant light in the bathroom.”

Sitting near the entrance, impeccably equipped Miele kitchens are also showcased throughout, featuring a spacious island and generous storage options. Old tundra stone from Turkey, oak veneer and textured porcelain tiles on the splashback elevate the space. These tones are offset by matte black tapware, burnished brass and walnut batten detailing. “My design intent for this project was to create gorgeous homes that evoke a sense of relaxation and calm while being surrounded by luxurious and sophisticated design features,” says Bec.

In the living room, the design objective to establish a space that felt warm and textured as well as opulent and distinct is apparent. The walnut joinery extends into the bathrooms, where tundra stone, oak and curved elements such as dome wall sconces contribute to a tangible sense of cohesion. The apartments are defined by a strong indoor-outdoor connection as well. Complete with full-height doors and expansive windows opening to private balconies, the penthouse boasts a secluded terrace enclosed by lush planters. Similarly, each apartment incorporates an alfresco dining area framed by the prominent arch, inviting the outdoors into the everyday functionality of the living spaces. Landscape designer Jack Merlo notes, “the initial brief was to create a really seamless integration between architecture, interior and of course, the landscape […] being a mixed-use development with retail at the bottom and apartments above, we really had to be innovative with the way we incorporated landscape.”
