Carla Ridge by Lucas
The owners of Carla Ridge saw their Californian home as an opportunity to immerse themselves within their treasured collection. Lucas draws from the iconic mid-century aesthetic of the area, combining nostalgic nods through a curated lens.
Splitting their time between their New York City townhouse and the latest residence in Beverly Hills, the owners’ intent was to both seize the opportunity to disconnect while in residence and surround themselves with their own personal art collection. Making the most of the ability to occupy both east and west coasts, the home needed to reflect a strong sense of place. By tapping into the known modernist style of the Trousdale area, the resulting spaces feel fittingly conjured. The decision to engage Lucas also acknowledges an understanding and appreciation for similar values.
“The view on this site is gorgeous, quintessential LA,” describes David Lucas, co-founding director of Lucas. “This, in combination with being in the Trousdale neighbourhood, which is so significant in terms of mid-century LA design, made this a dream project.” With a past that has been dedicated to art, design and architecture, the owners wanted to integrate these values and passions into the home. The level of personalisation is overlaid into each detail.
Throughout the site, both the existing and the introduced elements inspired artworks and commissions. “The trees on the property became the inspiration for the David Wiseman sculpture,” says David. “We worked closely with him to achieve the right scale – the completed result being that the branch had the scale and proportion of the existing trees.” Internally, an array of items was designed to suit both a specific style and comfort, ensuring they complemented the pieces within their collection. Although, as David adds, “the clients came with an extensive furniture collection,” they were also open to investing in additional pieces during the design process.

Carla Ridge emerges as an extension of the aesthetic appetite of its owners. Lucas crafts a home that is both an addition to and houses the owners’ growing collection.
