With a storied past, Heywood Park Residence feels like a countryside estate within an urban setting, its lush surroundings gracefully concealing any nearby signs of neighbours. Williams Burton Leopardi builds upon a previous renovation on the site, with this iteration focusing on expanding the home and creating a dedicated entertaining area.

Nestled away from the street behind a delicate wrought-iron fence, Heywood Park Residence borders a public park on one side and can be accessed via a quiet street. These features establish the setting of the residence, painting a picture of seclusion amid nature, detached from the hustle and bustle of the city. With a rich historical background, including its use as a filming location for the film Shine, the home boasts grandeur and spacious proportions within. To enhance the sense of scale, Williams Burton Leopardi evaluates the existing structure and its previous iterations, aiming to propose a considered and proportionate addition.

The latest renovation creates a combined living, dining and kitchen area to the rear of the home while retaining connections to its original details. By maintaining the ceiling heights, the expansion seamlessly integrates with the existing structure. Upon passing through a long hallway, a glimmer of light beckons towards the newly crafted spaces, enticing exploration. In harmony with the abode’s original proportions, the addition exudes intimacy and familiarity. Consistent with the dwelling’s overall aesthetic, textures and warmth permeate the space, highlighting its openness. With enhanced views of the surrounding gardens, the addition serves to anchor the residence in place, fostering a sanctuary-like ambience throughout.

The setting has a distinct sense of detachment, only heightened by the expansive surrounding gardens. The new interventions also seek to merge indoor and outdoor spaces, all while keeping the original character and rhythm of the dwelling. Emphasising visibility and sightlines, the design fosters connections between different areas as well as between interior and exterior spaces. Drawing inspiration from the deep reveals of the existing home, the addition incorporates a similar sense of depth and exploration, framing picturesque views and enhancing the overall journey within.

Each new material chosen for Heywood Park Residence weaves with the existing elements, complementing them rather than overpowering them. Williams Burton Leopardi exercises restraint to ensure that the new addition blends effortlessly with the original home, creating a sense of timelessness.
