After a challenging winter, Dulux’s colour forecasters think Australians are going to opt for bolder, more uplifting colours in their homes for summer.

It’s going to be a summer where we embrace colour, according to the experts at Dulux, who are predicting that Australians will opt for rich, bold shades contrasted with softer pastel hues to create rooms that are optimistic, hopeful and a spur for creativity. “Vibrant and uplifting colours can be used together in any combination to bring joy back into our homes this summer,” says Andrea Lucena-Orr, the brand’s colour and communications manager.

“Emerge can completely transform a space into a sunny sanctuary and evoke a carefree attitude.”

Dulux’s summer forecast is centred around the Emerge palette, one of three colour collections in the esteemed paint brand’s 2025 Colour Forecast, along with Still and Recollect. Emerge is all about optimism, individuality and joy, and features soft and mid-tone hues like soft greens, mauves, orange-based pinks and greyed off-lilacs.

“Emerge can completely transform a space into a sunny sanctuary and evoke a carefree attitude,” says Lucena-Orr. “Visually, the trend features soft rounded forms and expressive collections of decor, crafted with modularity and curves. These shapes and free-flowing lines add to the whimsical yet calming nature of the trend.”

“Increased colour confidence is a key insight that has influenced the Emerge palette, and we can’t wait to see how consumers incorporate these colours in their homes this summer.”

The summer forecast features a joyous cast of hues, like the soft pink Piglet; Lavenbrun, a muted purple with brown undertones; Lemon Blast, a pastel yellow; the burgundy-ish Ripe Rhubarb; Cornstalk, a pale khaki; and Justice, a soothing purplish blue. Lauren Treloar, Dulux’s colour manager, says the palette was influenced by Australians’ increasing propensity to decorate with colour.

“Over the past few years, we’ve seen a shift in Australia’s appetite for using coloured neutrals and bolder shades,” she explains. “This increased colour confidence is a key insight that has influenced the Emerge palette, and we can’t wait to see how consumers incorporate these colours in their homes this summer.”

“Australians love entertaining and introducing sunny colours is an obvious choice to add a sense of fun and wonder to a home this summer.”

To demonstrate the colours at work, the Dulux team – working with long-term stylist Bree Banfield – overhauled a family home that was dominated by whites and neutrals. The light-filled living room was updated with Dulux Piglet on the walls and ceilings, Clay Bake – a muddied gold shade – on a feature wall and Hog Bristle Quarter on the cabinetry, trims and window wells.

Warm, brown-based pinks were employed in the main bedroom, with Terracotta Chip playing a starring role, while in the hallway, Cornstalk on the walls and Lemon Blast on the ceiling bring sunshine vibes that help tie the space in with the rest of the house. “Australians love entertaining and introducing sunny colours is an obvious choice to add a sense of fun and wonder to a home this summer,” says Treloar.
