Flexibility is a cornerstone requirement of modern urban living: the flexibility to move in tandem with life changes, the flexibility to adapt your furniture to suit your space and lifestyle and the flexibility to customise your environment to suit your style. At the heart of new Sydney-based curated furniture brand New Piece is a desire to fulfil the needs of a generation that values flexibility – but wants it embellished with beauty and functionality.

New Piece collaborates with a cadre of international designers to release collections that flatter an array of aesthetics and lifestyles.

Female-led, New Piece’s philosophy is rooted in a desire to make honest, original design readily available, visible and affordable. The brand collaborates with a cadre of international designers to release collections that flatter an array of aesthetics and lifestyles. Its curation of signature modular sofas easily adapt to a range of spaces, meaning customers can enjoy stunning furnishings regardless of the size of their homes. The sculptural Curv, for example, boasts a simple design, but its three modules can be added and removed to create a multi-seat sofa or one-person chairs. Similarly, the Loaf sofa – inspired by the comfort of a loaf of bread – can be rearranged at will, while offering a showstopping conversation piece for the home.

The avant-garde Woodpecker dining table by Danish designer Jacob Amtorp boasts the clean lines of Scandinavian design and can expand or contract – ideal for urban apartments where room is at a premium. While designer furniture is often created with larger homes in mind, New Piece’s ranges offer urban dwellers in tight quarters a design-forward catalogue of pieces to shop.

New Piece’s dedication to design and craftsmanship is underscored by its collaborations with international designers.

Quality craftsmanship sits at the heart of every collection it curates. The brand ensures its pieces incorporate innovative materials to bring timeless designs to life, guaranteeing the longevity of each piece and embedding it with a natural sustainability.

New Piece’s dedication to design and craftsmanship is underscored by its collaborations with international designers. Danish brands Studio Mathias Falkenstrøm and CaDot Design bring sleek Scandinavian influences to the brand’s collections, while LOEWE  FOUNDATION Craft Prize finalist Min Chen celebrates the intersection of Chinese and western design languages in pieces that are equally at home in New Piece’s Shanghai headquarters or in Australian living spaces.

The elegantly contoured Blossom sofa is available as a two- or three-seater and can be fully upholstered or left with its striking wooden accents.

Customisation is also integral to New Piece’s service, with the fabric and size of many designs able to be modified. The elegantly contoured Blossom sofa, for example, is available as a two- or three-seater and can be fully upholstered or left with its striking wooden accents. Blossom is also available in a range of colours, including white oak with a choice of minimalist off-white or warm papaya-orange upholstery. Meanwhile, the Iris Long dining table, which is carved from sustainable wood, comes in three sizes with a choice of black or white oak.

Every item in New Piece’s collection is carefully chosen to give city dwellers a huge range of choices to suit their unique homes and needs, bringing a fresh lens to the possibilities of furniture design in Australia.
