51 Beach Road
Poised above the coastline in Collaroy on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, this Peter Stutchbury-designed residence embodies the quiet strength and sensitivity that define the architect’s work.
Anchored in its landscape and shaped by the rhythms of sun, wind and ocean, the home unfolds through a series of crafted spaces that feel both protective and deeply connected to place. Robust materials including timber, concrete and glass are employed with restraint, allowing light and air to guide the experience of moving through the house.
Generous openings draw in uninterrupted coastal views, while carefully calibrated overhangs and courtyards temper exposure, creating pockets of intimacy throughout the interior. The plan flows with an effortless clarity, transitioning from calm, private zones to open living areas that stretch toward the horizon. Decks and terraces encourage a continual dialogue between indoors and out, reinforcing the home’s role as a serene coastal refuge.
Considered in its detailing and quietly confident in its presence, the residence reflects a refined understanding of site and climate. Here, architecture becomes a vessel for stillness and coastal living, a place where the everyday is shaped by landscape, craftsmanship and an enduring sense of calm.
