The client bought an available lot on Sydney’s northern beaches to construct a beach house for retirement, as well as, to enjoy with their family.

A higher western side raised boardwalk enters the home, which is suspended above native grasses.  It consists of a core three-story block, as well as, a tinier two-story pavilion, joined by a glazed bridge. The chief segment expanses the whole width of the site, maximizing ocean views. The living rooms are situated on the central level, opening on to a cantilevered deck, which suspends in the treetops providing the joint focus. The top level comprises the main bedroom & a piano gallery, connected to the main living level by an inviting staircase. The garden level comprises three guest bedrooms, which offers the owners the ability to live solely on two stories, especially when the family is not “beached” at the house.

From The Architects

The principal house pavilion is a steel column construction fixed on a regular grid outlining a service zone & clear living areas. The façade is broken vertically by off-grid setting lines, as well as, playing with the founded framing module. The deck is hovering because of three steel & timber cruciform flitch beams. Which are arranged at a height to also form the interior balustrading.
