In Melbourne’s Brighton, 10 St Ninians pairs refined simplicity with bayside living, showcasing custom design details like curved joinery and Iver’s Brunswick hardware to create a calm, cohesive atmosphere.
Located on Brighton’s prestigious Golden Mile, 10 St Ninians has undergone a remarkable transformation, reimagined by interior designer Kirsty Ristevski of Curatd. The renovation of a Jon Friedrich Architects’ original maximises the potential of a compact block, effortlessly blending sophisticated design with a relaxed, bayside lifestyle.
Ristevski’s vision was to create a space that fused past and present while enhancing lifestyle amenity. “The renovation involved a mix of structural updates and aesthetic enhancements, with an emphasis on creating open, light-filled spaces that blend seamlessly with the outside,” she explains. Drawing inspiration from classic European interiors and the home’s coastal surroundings, the design incorporates teal and timber tones, grey and brown marble, and soft, organic curves that echo the nearby shoreline.
Set behind lush landscaping and a secure entry, the three-level sanctuary is served by a private elevator, with expansive living spaces flowing to a sun-drenched terrace. The master suite features a private balcony, walk-in wardrobe and ensuite with freestanding tub, double shower and skylight. A dedicated cinema room, gym and a three-to-four-car garage complete the home’s luxury features.
The design narrative unfolds through a carefully curated selection of materials, from walnut cabinetry to Antique Silver marble in the bar and kitchen and Breccia Capraia marble in the formal lounge room. One of the standout elements is the use of custom curved joinery, a design feature that enhances flow and cohesion. “The introduction of highly functional yet incredibly beautiful banks of custom curved joinery was central to the renovation,” says Ristevski.
Every detail, down to the hardware, has been selected to ensure a cohesive and refined design. Key to this approach was Iver’s Brunswick range in Signature Brass, chosen for its timeless sophistication and tactile appeal. The collection – including door handles, hinges, door stops and cabinetry pulls – was carefully utilised to enhance continuity. “Integrating the architectural hardware played a significant role in bringing the design vision to life,” says the designer. “The Brunswick range in Signature Brass was the perfect fit. Its timeless design, texture and elegant, deep-brass finish added a layer of refinement to both the doors and cabinetry throughout the home.”
The range features diamond-cut cross knurling, a detail that enhances both function and beauty. “The diamond-cut knurled finish is really gorgeous. These handles are not only visually pleasing but practical and comfortable to use.” The weight and solid construction of the hardware ensure quality, making it not only a design statement but a practical addition. Additionally, the Signature Brass finish complements the home’s earthy materials, providing a sophisticated contrast to the timber and marble surfaces.
With the beach just moments away, 10 St Ninians embodies a lifestyle of ease and beauty. “The attention to detail means this home is not just a residence but an experience, one where the line between indoors and outdoors blurs.”
