BAINA and Estudio Persona unite their design philosophies in the UMBRA collection, a four-piece limited-edition towelling series that celebrates simplicity, refinement and the interplay of light and shadow.

BAINA, known for redefining the bathing experience with modern design and mindful craftsmanship, has teamed up with Los Angeles-based design studio Estudio Persona to create UMBRA, a limited-edition towelling collection that brings together the distinct design codes of both brands. The collection, inspired by the phenomena of ‘umbra,’ explores the interplay of light and shadow, resulting in a series of towels that embody a shared philosophy of simplicity and refinement.

“With a mutual affinity for modern design, natural materials and high-quality craftsmanship, inviting Estudio Persona into the world of bathing felt like an organic alignment.”

Founded in 2019 by Bailey Meredith and Anna Fahey, BAINA quickly made a name for itself by curating organic cotton towelling that elevates the daily bathing routine. Their designs, rooted in fine art, sculpture and architecture, subtly disrupt the neutrality of the bathing space. Estudio Persona has been a force in the design world since 2015, with founders Emiliana Gonzalez and Jessie Young focusing on bold silhouettes, neutral tones and raw materials free from embellishment. The duo’s collaborative approach to furniture design has expanded into other categories, making their partnership with BAINA a natural extension of their creative philosophy.

“With a mutual affinity for modern design, natural materials and high-quality craftsmanship, inviting Estudio Persona into the world of bathing felt like an organic alignment,” says Meredith, BAINA’s creative director. “Their distinctly neutral and minimalist aesthetic perfectly complements BAINA’s commitment to permanence.”

The application of a jacquard technique creates bold, raised lines against lighter base tones, evoking a sense of depth and referencing the effect of shadow and umbra.

The UMBRA collection features a tonal colour palette of Stone, Sand, Rust and Bark. Clean, recurrent lines form a linear pattern on each towel and, for the first time, BAINA has crafted a collection entirely from cut-pile, organic cotton velour. This technique results in a plush texture and velvety surface, enhancing the softness of each piece. The application of a jacquard technique creates bold, raised lines against lighter base tones, evoking a sense of depth and referencing the effect of shadow and umbra.

“The UMBRA concept was reinforced by playing with the presence and absence of light, and how it can alter colour tone,” says Estudio Persona’s Jessie Young. “To visualise this, we selected a palette reminiscent of natural shades, from deep bark to neutral stone.”

The four-piece collection includes the Madre bath sheet in Rust, Grande bath towel in Stone, Rey hand towel in Sand and Sacramento bath mat in Bark. Each piece is a testament to both brands’ dedication to quality and timeless design.
