A Harmony of Form VeniceM’s Luxury Lighting
VeniceM’s range of luxury lights, stocked exclusively in Australia by Gineico Lighting, reflect the rich history and artisanal heritage of the city after which the brand is named.
Only established in 2013, VeniceM might be considered a greenhorn when it comes to Italy’s long and venerable tradition of lighting design. But in 11 short years, founders Melissa Lunardi and Massimo Tonetto have elevated VeniceM from tyro status to become one of the country’s most esteemed creators of luxury lighting, where clean minimal design and traditional Italian craftsmanship exist in beautifully considered harmony.
Partnering with the brand was an easy decision for Australian retailer Gineico Lighting. “We discovered VeniceM when Melissa and Massimo presented their first collection nearly 10 years ago,” recalls Gineico director Pierluigi Gambacorti. “Our team immediately recognised the unique combination of authentic design and quality craftsmanship. As well, we felt that the lighting would perfectly match not only our design direction but, most importantly, the level of quality and detailing our specifiers look for when selecting fittings for the luxury homes we help to complete every year.”
VeniceM’s lights possess a distinct design language, one where simple geometric shapes are integrated with sleek metal finishes and Murano glass. It’s a language heavily influenced by the rich history and artistic heritage of the legendary Italian city after which the brand is named, and where it is based. “VeniceM draws inspiration from the city’s unique blend of old and new, translating the beauty and complexity of Venice into its lighting designs,” says Gambacorti. “This influence is evident in the uncompromising integration of Murano glass components into the modern, sleek and minimalistic handcrafted lighting it produces.”
Some of Gambacorti’s favourite pieces from the VeniceM range embody that language in their clean geometric shapes, tactile finishes and exquisite, uncompromising attention to detail. The Circle Table lamp, for instance, is beguiling in its simplicity: a circular metal ring seems to hover above an elegant cylinder, in four metallic finishes including pewter and brushed burnished copper. More abstract is the curvaceous Bissa Suspension light, where a délabré burnished brass structure, supported by steel cables, features strip LED illumination that creates an enchanting trail of light, seemingly in mid-air.
The Optical family – which includes wall, floor, suspension and table iterations – all possess the same elegant bones: a vertical burnished brass structure with an amber, smokey grey or clear Murano glass trihedron that creates a softly diffused light. The Misty collection, which comprises a table lamp and suspension light, showcases a sublime gradated Murano white glass sphere that recalls a sophisticated crystal ball. The company has also recently launched a new range, Doma, which comprises two chandeliers and a table, floor and wall light. The pieces fuse elegant tubular metal and bell-shaped Murano glass in shades of antique pink, blue, green and smoke grey.
For Gambacorti and the team at Gineico Lighting, establishing and sustaining relationships with makers like Melissa Lunardi and Massimo Tonetto is at the core of the business. “Our appreciation for VeniceM’s design philosophy and quality of craftsmanship comes from visiting them regularly, and working closely to fully understand and absorb the story behind every piece in their collection. The fact that our team is Italian means we are uniquely positioned to better understand and clearly articulate the values at the heart of a luxury brand like VeniceM.”
