The Rue Coffee Table
Inspired by European craftsmanship, Melbourne-based AKI Design has launched a refined new centrepiece for the contemporary home – the Rue coffee table.
The latest furniture release from AKI Gallery, the Rue coffee table by AKI Design marks a significant expansion of the practice’s growing collection of collectible furniture and objects. Designed by founder Candyce Huntsman, the elegant, sculptural table draws on European craftsmanship traditions and artisanal production methods.
Characterised by a circular Crema Aurora stone top with sculptural timber legs, the Rue coffee table is both sophisticated and contemporary.
“The Rue coffee table was conceived while I was travelling in France,” Huntsman says. “While living in London and journeying across Europe, I developed a deep appreciation for local craftsmanship – seeing firsthand the level of detail and consideration embedded in each piece. I wanted to create something that captured that same sensibility.”
Characterised by a circular Crema Aurora stone top in warm cream and blush tones with sculptural timber legs, the Rue coffee table is both sophisticated and contemporary. The rich walnut legs are each composed of three elliptical forms that appear to embrace the tabletop, creating a petal-like silhouette when viewed from above.
Huntsman’s design balances a solid, geometric form with precise, delicate detailing. “I was drawn to the idea of designing a piece with a strong architectural presence, yet one that remained soft and refined,” she explains. Crafted in collaboration with Melbourne stonemasons and timber artisans, the table reflects AKI Design’s ongoing exploration of materiality and detail. Available in two sizes, the Rue is handcrafted from walnut timber and select stones.
With this addition, the practice augments its growing collection of collectible design pieces. “The launch of Rue through AKI Gallery represents an important step in expanding our design language into furniture and objects. We’re excited to continue building a collection that reflects our values of craftsmanship, longevity and thoughtful design.”
