Located in the heritage-rich Sydney suburb of Woollahra, Art House sees the interior of the existing home transformed. Taking inspiration from its bravely adventurous clients, the home becomes one of inviting texture, colour and intrigue. The injection of textural variations, curated artworks and furniture that speak to the personality of the client and their style means that each room takes on its own narrative and directive within. Studio CD embraces the playful and invites a sense of fun, while the combination of the classical and the contemporary is further enhanced through moments of timelessness and pockets of curiosity.
Celebrating the existing home and its heritage features was a clear imperative, referencing an understanding of European sensibilities. Within stately historical homes, filled with expressed architectural internal detailing, there exists a grandeur to the shell of the space. It was therefore key to ensure the new interior design did not compete with these elements. Instead, embracing the home’s heritage and allowing its details their own breathing room allows for an expression of the home’s history and its previous life to be felt. The new layers brought in by Studio CD then add to the sense of the home’s past and create an expressive stamp of its current design-loving occupants.

Throughout, the restrained use of colour and texture adds layers to the home and builds up to create pockets of intrigue. From the parquetted flooring as the base to the warm grey walls and white ceilings, the stage is set for the additional articulation of artwork, furniture and object. The use of wallpaper adds a nod to the home’s crafted past and adds both an element of texture and fun within the featured spaces, referencing the European murals of past. No two spaces are the same, but are tied together with a knowing unity, tapping into the many nuances of its owners.
