A coalescence of past and present, Astor Hotel by Technē Architecture and Interior Design is proudly reminiscent of days gone by. At this reworking of a 1960s motel, guests are treated to a revival of the senses and a reminder of life in colour.

Reviving the retro, Technē Architecture and Interior Design has turned the Albury hotel into an iconic destination that evokes the halcyon days of the mid-20th century. From landscaping by Ayus Botanicals, offering a grandeur befitting Palm Springs or Miami’s Ocean Drive, to the classic neon sign, the blushing pink, terracotta and teal façade, the breezeblock walls and the decorative white ironwork, one could be forgiven for thinking they’d stepped back in time.

Bringing back the charm to the classic midcentury motel, the project unites the best of past and present to offer a true experience of vacationing in style.

Adjoining the hotel is the Public Bar and Bistro, which is open for both guests and public diners. The bistro offers a calming yet vibrant comfort, with Kvardt Maharam upholstered booths that are equally balanced by the custom-made tartan carpet by RC+D, both complemented by the blackbutt flooring and terrazzo slab that decorates the bar. Throughout the bistro space, local artist Elin Matilda has brought an explosion of colour and character through her paintings, wallpaper and artwork, all of which honour the midcentury-inspired identity of Astor Hotel.

Weaving one’s way to the beer garden is a playful experience, with Palissade barstools that seamlessly flow from the timber batten and concrete bar. Dependant on the season of travel, guests have a variety of options to enjoy the activities Astor Hotel has to offer. Decorating the façade of the public bar, breeze blocks offer guests a cool night in, or should they seek warmth, across the crazy paved floor, a Filiofocus fireplace by Oblica in a rust finish stands as a centrepiece to the beer garden’s character.
