Combining the classic look of terracotta with contemporary ceramic techniques, Brickworks’ new range, SK1N by San Selmo, offers endless possibilities to unite roof and wall in a seamless natural façade of earthy tones inspired by the Australian landscape.

Reimagining traditional shiplap-profile natural stone and clay façades, the SK1N range combines sleek architectural refinement with a humble Mediterranean sensibility. San Selmo’s new concept is a single design element that can be applied to any surface, one that is not only versatile but offers the inherent longevity of ceramics. “Terracotta façades are timeless in their beauty, and SK1N elevates this to a whole new level,” says Brett Ward, General Manager International Marketing at Brickworks.

SK1N is available in seven colours, each inspired by the rich and varied tones of the Australian landscape, as well as both U and L profiles. This means that the SK1N range offers flexibility to lay vertically, horizontally, and in multiple combinations. Furthermore, SK1N can be installed on both vertical and sloped surfaces thanks to the simple installation process, where the surface is prepared with a layer of secondary battens, then the terracotta SK1N tiles are fixed using screw or nails with the horizontal joints overlapping and vertical joints misaligned. The result is a seamless flowing surface, uninterrupted by visible fixings.

Because of the simplicity of this application method, SK1N can be installed on both the roof and exterior walls, creating a single, unified architectural form. Brett explains, “transformative in its very essence, SK1N provides an opportunity to craft architectural designs with a singular roof and walling material. Creating an exciting new path for the Australian market, SK1N is representative of a new world where architecture and landscape are more connected now than ever before.”

Brickworks unveiled the SK1N range along with more than 100 other new products at B20, Brickworks’ biggest product launch event yet. The event was live streamed, allowing industry a behind the scenes look at Brickworks expansive spring/summer collection.

Combining functionality and easy installation with clean architectural forms, the San Selmo SK1N creates the potential for a refined aesthetic, flexible enough to enhance any project.
