Refined and contemporary, Brighton Residence is a study of how layered, bespoke interiors complement and elevate the architecture of a home. The resulting abode is one that is harmonious, seamlessly blending into its Brighton locale.

For the interiors of the home, SJB has eloquently responded to architecture by Wolveridge Architects, while the exteriors are grounded in textural detailing – including off-form concrete, timber panelling and stone – which sets the tone for the project. SJB decided a bespoke approach would best suit the dwelling, imbuing it with an understated, luxe feel that evolves into an intimate living experience. Natural tones also coalesce to provide a cohesive and calm interior.

An open plan entertaining zone, with a north-facing view of the garden, encourages gathering and allows a sense of flow. At its centre is a striking bar anchored by a granite island – in Envious from G-LUX. Custom joinery in Dulux Bottle Green forms the backdrop while an oversized wine cabinet houses the owners’ impressive collection. The adjacent dining space features Potocco’s Velis dining chairs from Cosh Living, a Baxter Plissé Low Cabinet from Space Furniture and a textural Nicholas Harding artwork. Made by Storey’s Ellery French oak flooring provides a natural grounding throughout.

Bathrooms are defined by bespoke detailing and a simple, pared-back approach, allowing the Dedalus natural stone floor from Artedomus to become the focal point. The flooring is rich in detail – a wide-veined marble in green tones – and is complemented by fluted glass, fine, black steel detailing, oval mirrors and black cabinetry.

A sense of calm comes from how the open plan layout welcomes in natural light and greenery – a connection that is further accented by the colour green, which features throughout.

The rest of the residence, including the kitchen, bedrooms and living areas, is minimal in a way that evokes elegance and timelessness. In the main bedroom, a dark-toned Lewis bed from Jardan contrasts with Arte’s Aurora wallcovering in silver. The monochrome palette extends to a second bedroom, dominated by soft pinks and greys. Defined by this muted palette, the home feels quiet and peaceful. A curated selection of the owners’ artwork also adds intrigue and sophistication.

Offering a beautiful backdrop to daily life, Brighton Residence is an understated home that speaks volumes through its texture and rich materiality. SJB has created a contemplative experience that is simultaneously luxurious, simple and bespoke.
