Grounded in place, Brighton Residence is a testament to permanence and embraces its location. Sync Architecture and Flack Studio work together to fulfil the brief of creating a forever home, combining both modern coastal and restrained approaches across the site.

Boasting views of the ocean from the upper floor, Brighton Residence sits within its namesake suburb, which is on the coast south of Melbourne CBD. Working with the orientation of the site to allow for sweeping views and a natural connection within, large windows ensure the western side remains open, whilst the main living areas of the home circulate around a central open courtyard. In its linear approach, the resulting residence combines both simplicity and detail to create an effortless fusing of form and landscape. With architecture and interior design by Sync Architecture, Flack Studio then completes the home through a final layer of styling and furniture selections.

Spread over two generous levels, the bold form features open glazing in select areas, allowing for natural light to enter at numerous points. Comprised of a specialised render, concrete, natural stone and glass, the form is intended to endure for many years to come. In planning for the future, the home is formed from a mostly monochromatic and muted palette to ensure its continued relevance over time.

Built by Concept Build, Brighton Residence is established as its own anchored form on site. The landscape, designed by Plume, then takes on a resilience, featuring a similar order to the formal composition of the home with natural and sculptural selections. A considers approach ensures the greenery softens the surrounds and supports the presence of the residence. Around the inground pool, the connected living, dining and kitchen spaces then spill out into the rear landscape as an extension of the home, whilst the more passive spaces remain tucked away.

Upon this classically defined base, the additional elements of Brighton Residence animate the home, enlivening it for the next chapter. Extending the original character, Sync Architecture and Flack Studio create distinct moments of interest and curiosity throughout.
