Carrington Rd Residence by Studio P is a place of resilient character. It is both focused and balanced, firm and bold, elegant and yet playful. The introduction of angles and vivid colours hint at something deeper, a place of quiet retreat that distinctly mirrors its inhabitants.

Nestled within the leafy suburb of Wahroonga, visitors of Carrington Rd Residence are greeted by a composed potted plant, propelling a courteous memo – one of peaceful sanctuary. Framed by a black brick and cast concrete wall and meditating on white and grey pebbles, the solitary well-trimmed plant stands poised, implying balance and individuality within.

Every external feature of Carrington Rd Residence becomes a self-hypnotizing source, emulating and reinforcing the qualities of its inhabitants.

Every external feature of Carrington Rd Residence becomes a self-hypnotizing source, emulating and reinforcing the qualities of its inhabitants. The main wooden entrance door gracefully stretches from the floor to the ceiling, whilst two longitudinal transparent windows embrace the door from each side, touching the top. A wooden ceiling slides through the door perpetuating a few more meters to the exterior. Likewise, the seamless matte polished concrete floor lingers as an outspreading platform that joins the outer and inner parts of the entrance.

Bemused by the majestic courtyard – the source of light and vitality of the house – one almost overlooks the dining room. Following the meeting of the six rounded seats, two bulging cylinders bark from the left within the kitchen space – glossy black hoods descending from the ceiling over an embedded induction cooktop. They theatrically balance the lower and side cabinets in colour and texture, leaving the rest of the orchestration to the white-veined quartzite slabs overlaying the counters. Tiny black cylindrical light sources balance the protruding hoods and create a stimulating juxtaposition of scale, adding an alluring aesthetic through charming visual layering. A small bar overviews the external landscape through an expansive glass pane whispering for more light. From there, one may slide into a tiny corner that’s quiet and disciplined, with a wooden desk and a contemplative view.

To the other side of the dining table hides an almost passive retreat, a sitting room with a modern dark fireplace that feigns a wall partition. Beyond the corridor, one enters a minimal bedroom, fragile but elegant in its bed and side table proportions. The softness of the furniture and the garnishing elements almost attempt to balance the harshness of the dark linear walls and suspended industrial beams. The round opening in the sleeping quarters reiterates the bedroom as a place of rest.

A structure for retreat and calming reflection, Carrington Rd Residence is a rich display colour and material. With careful consideration, Studio P ensures the home will stand for years to come.
