Caulfield North House by Architecture Works
Through a restrained palette and thoughtful design, Architecture Works has transformed Caulfield North House into a refined family home that celebrates materiality, light and its connection to the landscape.
From the outset, the design prioritises flow and clarity. The journey begins at the front gate, where a generous, landscaped yard sets the tone for what lies beyond. The dark timber-clad front door opens to a softly lit hallway, flanked by a concealed garage and a secondary living space. As you move further into the home, views of the lush rear garden and pool forge a strong connection to the outdoors. At the heart of the property, a central courtyard framed by greenery punctuates the space, introducing natural light and a sense of calm.
The ground floor is dedicated to shared living spaces, where soaring 4.5-metre ceilings enhance the sense of openness. At its centre, the kitchen features a striking CDK Stone benchtop island paired with oak joinery, seamlessly connecting to the adjacent dining area. The custom timber dining table by Nook&North further highlights the thoughtful curation of materials and furnishings throughout the home. Together, these elements create a cohesive palette of warmth and texture, grounding the living spaces in natural tones and tactile finishes.
The home’s connection to the outdoors is underscored by a flow of spaces that extend from the interior to the alfresco entertaining area, pool house and landscaped garden. A covered barbecue area wraps around the rear of the home, ensuring continuity between the living zones and outdoor spaces. The pool, with its geometric design, echoes the clean, deliberate lines found throughout the architecture, creating harmony at every turn.

Ascending the curved staircase, illuminated by a skylight, the first floor is divided into distinct yet interconnected zones. The main suite offers privacy and a retreat-like atmosphere, while the children’s bedrooms form their own wing. This intentional separation strikes a balance between connection and independence, with the transition marked by the central staircase and its sculptural presence.
The material palette is integral to the home’s atmosphere. Natural timber, textured stone and soft finishes cultivate a sense of calm and longevity, reflecting the clients’ desire for a sanctuary amid their busy lives. These elements also ground the architecture within its landscaped setting, fostering a connection between the built and natural environments.
With its seamless indoor-outdoor connection and refined materiality, Caulfield North House achieves a perfect balance between function and beauty, creating a thoughtful, enduring space for family life.
