The owners of Chiswick Residence engage Tamsin Johnson for a minor renovation of their existing home, adapting it to suit their lifestyle, and thereby fostering a beautiful, nuanced interior that reflects their personalities.
As the original house appeared disjointed, the owners wanted to infuse a sense of individuality and warmth into Chiswick Residence. With a keen eye for aesthetics and an appreciation for artistic expression, the designer approached the project with innovative flair. Despite the unassuming facade, Tamsin recognised the home’s hidden potential and endeavoured to unveil its concealed charm. The result is a revitalised, contemporary abode seamlessly blending vintage elements with contemporary design.
Chiswick Residence’s welcoming aspect toward the harbour and sweeping ocean views presented a prime opportunity for elevating the home. At the heart of the dwelling, there exists a harmonious blend of interior and exterior realms, anchoring the residence within its surroundings. Prioritising natural light and stunning views, adjustments were made to the layout to fully embrace this sense of openness.
The artful arrangement of old and new pieces, integrated within a subtle, textured interior, defined the essence of the design. Embracing her distinctive approach of blending traditional elements with contemporary design, Tamsin explains, “as a designer, I can focus attention on the value of things by building a team of strong but different personalities – a surface finish, a painting, a light fitting, a colour, a fabric – highlighting each of their values harmoniously and dynamically.” The inviting ambiance and sense of familiarity pervading Chiswick Residence stands as a testament to this approach, subtly reflecting the personalities of the owners.
