Captured From Above – Coastal by Gray Malin
Following his New York Times bestseller, Beaches, Gray Malin returns to take audiences on a journey of discovery with his new book, Coastal. Including images taken around the globe, the author and photographer has traversed international and local coastlines to bring forth a new collection of photography.
In over 200 pages, Gray photographs the illustrious identities of coastlines across Australia, New Zealand and internationally. Since his last release in 2016, Gray has been capturing images of both well-known and underrated locations. Photographed from above, the images capture a moment in time of some of the world’s most beloved coastlines. Allowing viewers to visualise locations from a rare vantage point, Coastal is the perfect companion during the winter months when fantasising about summer, sun and fresh water.
Through the dreamlike images, audiences are transported to the locations and encouraged to imagine how it would feel to experience such places. On every page, the photos ignite memories of summer days and the fresh spray of sea water. With each image, Gray masterfully presents the many shades of coastlines from warm sandy beaches, into the white crests of waves, aquas and deep blues. Images such as the one of Icebergs in Bondi reveal the intimate connection Sydney shares with its coastline, whilst the magnificence of Milford Sound in Queenstown, New Zealand is captured in one shot and tells the magical narrative of the union between land and ocean. Images taken across the Atlantic feature coasts along USA’s Midwest, including Michigan and Indiana, Northern California’s Big Sur and Pebble Beach Links, and Hawaii’s Big Island.
Available in May, Coastal by Gray Malin evokes memories of summer days through each photograph of coastlines around the world. As the perfect companion to Beaches, the bestselling author and photographer’s new release, Coastal, sets to brighten every day with its page-turning images.
