Capturing the essence of coastal living, Cove House takes integral cues from tropical destinations to recreate a calm and recharging retreat that connects to the distant ocean. Nina Maya Interiors and Maya Sternberg Architects combine to craft a softly lit and tempered home that transitions seamlessly between inside and out.

Weaving into the fabric of neraby properties and wanting to optimise their proximity to such enviable ocean views, Cove House is situated within the beachside suburb Tamarama. Having loved and known the location for some time, the owners wanted to recreate their own idyllic piece of paradise by the ocean, capturing the casual and open feeling of coastal living. With flowing connections, both visually and through the movement within the home, the priority of the residence is to anchor itself in place and feel transportive as a seaside oasis. With interior design by Nina Maya Interiors and architecture by Maya Sternberg Architects, a layering of similar tones harmonises the feeling from within.

The owners engaged Nina Maya Interiors initially only for styling and furniture selections, and through the process of working together, built a rapport that led to being engaged to cast their hand over the interior holistically. The landscape is designed by both Garden Life and Nina Maya Interiors to ensure the core philosophies of the residence carry to the outer limits of the site. With the focus on the view, generous amounts of glazing are used throughout, allowing the ocean in the distance to create scenes that animate the interior. Further adding to the feeling of restoration, the mostly light palette encourages immersion and slowing down.

Having loved living in Singapore, the inclusion of greenery around the pool brings a tropical sensibility and the living green wall celebrates the cohabitation of the built and the natural. Whilst the flooring of the original home remains mostly unchanged, newly crafted elements bring a refreshing and cohesive binding through the levels. A core part of residential life, the kitchen needed to be its own centrepiece as both a place for entertaining and for preparation, with the dining and living spaces radiating out from this space. Integrating an organic fluidity, seating and furniture is selected with softened edges and plush textiles.

Through a deliberate muted approach to colour and a softening of the natural elements, Cove House mirrors the ease of resort life. Nina Maya Interiors and Maya Stenberg Architects focus on a softened approach, with access and views consistently leading outward.
