Cultiver’s new store on Woollahra’s Queen Street is a physical embodiment of the brand’s commitment to refined style through an elevated customer experience. Designed to encourage exploration, the two-storey space features thoughtful details like vintage lighting, custom-designed furnishings and subtle but luxurious finishes that convey a modern, understated aesthetic.

When Cultiver launched in 2012, the vision was clear: to transform the retail experience by offering quality pieces made from the finest, globally sourced materials. Each aspect of the brand’s products, from the curation and production to delivery, are crafted with the customer in mind. In 2020, Cultiver entrusted interior architect Phoebe Nicol to design its flagship store in Mosman, and Nicol recently brought her signature style to the label’s newest location, an elegant and inviting enclave in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs.

Customers can peruse the latest collections in a spacious, inviting setting that encourages discovery.

“We love the design of this store,” says Nicolle Sullivan, founder and CEO of Cultiver. “Particular details like the French wash paint, herringbone oak flooring and custom-made, hand-carved, point-of-sale unit give the space a touch of Australian ease and understated luxury that feels perfectly aligned with the Cultiver spirit.”

Beyond the architecture and furnishings, Cultiver Woollahra introduces a fresh approach to engaging with the brand. Customers can peruse the latest collections in a spacious, inviting setting that encourages discovery. The store has been crafted with unique, unexpected touches that add warmth and character, creating an environment that feels as much like an art gallery as it does a boutique. One of the store’s most innovative features is The Styling Suite, located on the upper level. This space offers customers complimentary styling consultations guided by an expert stylist, allowing them to become familiar with Cultiver’s range.

“This design maintains the core values of the original store but adds a layer of refinement that resonates with the Woollahra locale.”

“When I designed the first Cultiver flagship store in 2020, my focus was on celebrating natural materials and craftsmanship,” says Nicol, reflecting on the evolution of her vision for Cultiver’s retail offering. “Four years later, the Woollahra store allowed me to bring this vision to a more intimate setting, with textures and finishes that evoke warmth and authenticity. This design maintains the core values of the original store but adds a layer of refinement that resonates with the Woollahra locale.”

Nicol’s attention to detail is evident throughout. One of her favourite elements is the point-of-sale unit, a focal point that fuses craftsmanship with natural materials. “The texture of this piece brings a tactile warmth to the space,” she notes. “I’ve always believed that natural materials help ground design.”

“Lighting isn’t just about illumination … it sets the mood, highlights textures and makes a space feel inviting,” says Nicol.

Lighting, too, plays a key role in the store’s ambience. Carefully chosen decorative fixtures create a layered effect, adding depth and warmth. “Lighting isn’t just about illumination … it sets the mood, highlights textures and makes a space feel inviting,” says Nicol.

The boutique also features contemporary stainless-steel elements, adding contrast to the warmth of the timber and lighting. “I love the balance between the sleekness of steel and the softness of wood,” says Nicol. “It reflects the mix of modernity and tradition that is central to my aesthetic.” The new Woollahra store echoes Cultiver’s commitment to thoughtful design and quality, inviting visitors to experience the brand in a quietly luxurious, intimate setting.
