Deering Office is a calm, meditative Prahran workspace primed for inspiration and ideation. Sydney-based architect and interior designer Sophie Davies was given the brief to transform the former real estate agency into a chic, fresh and creative office for entrepreneur Erin Deering and the launch of her latest fashion company, Deering.

The vision for the project was clear: to create a contemplative space that felt more like a residential address than a traditional corporate office. The result is an inviting and uplifting environment where art, furniture and plush textures combine to blur the boundary between home and work.

With a focus on personality-driven dressing, the designs encourage a confident and unapologetic style – an ethos reflected in the office’s poised yet playful character.

Davies’ design approach explored innovative materiality to create a dynamic atmosphere. The office, much like Deering herself, is ever-evolving; walls are arranged to allow natural light to flow through the office, highlighting the art and decor that feature throughout. The white walls – clad in soft, white Marmorino plaster – serve as a blank canvas, symbolising a new beginning and the potential for fresh designs. Ivory moiré-wrapped panels add a subtle brightness throughout the day, evoking a sense of glamour, while mirrored elements encourage introspection, inviting those within to reflect on their creative processes.

The office, much like Deering herself, is ever-evolving; walls are arranged to allow natural light to flow through the office, highlighting the art and decor that feature throughout.

Central to the office’s goings-on is a striking blue desk. The vibrant hue adds personality and joy to the office, naturally drawing people towards it. Its statement tone is accentuated by the overall colour palette, which is grounded by a neutral base and accented by rich merlot tones in the hallway and bathroom for a serene, sophisticated feel.

The office embodies a calm yet grand ambience, enhanced by vintage glass light fixtures and fine art. Soft lighting complements the tranquil atmosphere, allowing for focused work without distractions and bathes the space in a welcoming glow. There is also a confident and elegant blend of objects and furniture that juxtapose old with new, and rustic with sleek and cool tones. These balanced considerations culminate in a creative sanctuary designed for fun and invention.

Deering Office is both a workspace and a manifestation of Deering’s vision for individuality. Davies’ design mirrors the innovative spirit of Deering’s fashion line and echoes the principles of her eponymous company, which weaves together utilitarian elements with sharp finishes and fluid silhouettes. It offers a supportive environment for creativity, enabling exploration of the boundaries of fashion while remaining firmly rooted in an Australian identity.
