Initially, natural sandstone was proposed for the facade but concerns around its availability and installation complexity led the project team to explore alternatives. The stakeholders – architect, builder and client – sought a solution that would replicate the natural elegance of sandstone while addressing technical challenges. Dekton by Cosentino emerged as the perfect choice, offering a harmonious balance of aesthetics, durability and functionality.

Four distinct Dekton colours – Arenisca AU, Keon, Marmorio and Keranium – were employed in a 12-millimetre ventilated facade system, which features large-format panels for seamless visual continuity. These panels not only enhance the building’s modern yet contextually sensitive design but also simplify installation, making them an ideal choice for a project of this scale.

At the DoubleTree by Hilton, Dekton’s versatility allowed designers to harmonise the building with Hobart’s historic charm while achieving a contemporary sophistication.

Ventilated facades, like the one implemented at DoubleTree by Hilton Hobart, are celebrated for their thermal and acoustic benefits. This system promotes energy efficiency by regulating indoor temperatures while effectively managing moisture. Dekton enhances these advantages with its ultra-compact, non-combustible composition. Resistant to UV rays, extreme temperatures and frost, Dekton ensures exceptional durability in Tasmania’s variable climate. Additionally, its low porosity and resistance to staining and scratching make it a low-maintenance material, ideal for high-visibility projects.

Beyond its resilience, Dekton offers timeless aesthetics, with a wide range of colours and finishes to suit any architectural vision. At the DoubleTree by Hilton, the material’s versatility allowed designers to harmonise the building with Hobart’s historic charm while achieving a contemporary sophistication.

As a cradle-to-grave carbon-neutral product, Dekton aligns with modern construction’s increasing focus on environmentally conscious design.

Cosentino’s commitment to sustainability also plays a vital role in the success of the Dekton facade system. As a cradle-to-grave carbon-neutral product, Dekton aligns with modern construction’s increasing focus on environmentally conscious design. Its durability ensures that the facade will maintain its beauty for years, reducing the need for maintenance or replacement.

The DoubleTree by Hilton Hobart exemplifies the endless possibilities of Dekton for facades. By combining aesthetics, functionality and sustainability, it represents a forward-thinking approach to architectural design that meets today’s demands while anticipating the needs of tomorrow.
