Addressing the street with multiple frontages, Eldernell Tce presents alternate visages whose character is differentiated through shifts in materiality. The Artificial applys a clean and contemporary approach, opening up the home and connecting to the surrounding landscape.

Located in Brisbane’s Hamilton, Eldernell addresses its multiple street frontages with varying subtleties, resulting in a multi-faced home brought together through a shared character internally. Responding to its warm context and climatic conditions, the formal relationship with the home and its surrounding landscape is founded on a sense of openness and uninterrupted flow. Large spans of glass offer portals and openings that connect the inside and outside spaces, creating spill overs from one to the other. A contemporary crisp palette broken by warming timber elements and further emphasises the openness and increased sense of scale. The Artificial has implemented a contemporary and light materiality to connect with its climate and open connection with the natural.

Eldernell is the home of its builder, Zephyr Industries, who has leveraged their well-versed knowledge of the world of boutique residential nuances in their own unique way. Spread over its three storeys, the home houses four bedrooms with matched bathrooms, a generous garage and specialised media and entertaining spaces throughout. A natural hierarchy is created through the vertical positioning and separation of zones, in the same way as the open and connected nature of the living areas encourage engagement both inside and in the landscaped areas. The upper level sees the master suite take occupancy with its own private balcony, while the entry and middle level is where the main hub of entertaining and gathering can occur. The lower level houses additional bedrooms, the secondary living space and other ancillary elements, further submerged into the site.

While somewhat restrained in its engagement with the street, from behind Eldernell Tce motions to a more articulated offering, where its many parts are revealed. The combination of a series of timber iterations offers a variety and create depth through its subtleties. Weatherboard comes together with timber cladding and timber battened elements to encase the home, while large spanning glass and concrete offer a balance, anchoring the building to its site and enabling an openness to its surroundings.

Eldernell Tce offers a series of spaces that have the flexibility to adjust to a multitude of functions, while being able to be compressed to create intimacy. The Artificial has responded to the site’s enviable aspects and optimised select views through curated openings, creating a dynamic and responsive home.
