Seeking an understated and minimalist home, Elizabeth Bay Penthouse emerges as a retreat from inner-city living. With respect for what came before, Bondi Kitchens and Joinery crafts custom joinery and fixtures for the Sydney residence, delivering a refined elegance that flows from room to room.

Light soaked and open, Elizabeth Bay Penthouse is delicately layered in its final form, balancing heritage features against more contemporary elements. Following 12 months of collaborative communication with the client, Sydney-based custom joiners Bondi Kitchens and Joinery crafted quality and luxurious built-in additions for the home, allowing the new to seamlessly align alongside the structure’s original heritage features.

The master ensuite and guest bath similarly evoke a refined sense of tranquillity.

Structural elements within the kitchen space were reconfigured, allowing light to sweep throughout whilst carving space into the home’s most used room. Designed to disappear, the Highline Pendant from Archier establishes a casual elegance that complements the kitchen’s custom detailing. Timber veneers by Elton Group in a matte coat are used for the full height cupboards alongside Dulux Ticking satin-finished painted overheads, both similarly crafting a masculine and defined grace. Offsetting the darker tones is the honed Statuario Marble countertop from Gitani Stone, which brings forth a subtle yet dramatic backdrop with its romantic curves and monochrome veining.

The master ensuite and guest bath similarly evoke a refined sense of tranquillity. The home’s cool palette is threaded throughout these more intimate, private spaces, as silent curves complement the kitchen’s benchtop. Combining quality design with custom joinery, material selections, hardware choices and fabrication methods, Elizabeth Bay Penthouse’s heightened detail results in a sophisticated and modern home, embracing its residents in both substance and style.

With slim line handles and fine indentations, the robes featured within the guest room tell the story of focused detail and a unified continuation from living spaces to intimate ones.

With slim line handles and fine indentations, the robes featured within the guest room tell the story of focused detail and a unified continuation from living spaces to intimate ones. Similarly appealing to a romantic and nuanced materiality, the custom robes offer storage options and tie in with the home’s Herringbone Enoak European Oak flooring. Turning to the master, a masculine edge is applied with thick handles and a dark timber veneer front. The considered approach to the master robes differentiates itself from the relaxed and romantic theme found within the other bedrooms. From the more intimate finishes to the masculine, each bedroom showcases how material selection – though varied – can aid in uniting a home’s interior character.

Whilst Elizabeth Bay Penthouse stays true to the home’s original heritage essence, the revisions to the interior bring the residence into a more contemporary realm. Delivering simple yet dynamic changes throughout, Bondi Kitchens and Joinery captures the home’s understated elegance, revitalising the interior through custom joinery and fixtures, select curves and poignant materiality.
