A weighted expression of permanence, Emplacement appears as a single-storey home, concealing additional levels and volumes from view. NTF Architecture proposes a formation of linear elements that navigate the sloping site and create a residence open to the natural elements.

Replacing an existing 1970s-era home, Emplacement engages with both the surrounds and the building’s context with a sense of purpose, framing views out and creating moments of retreat. Concealing the additional levels from the façade, the form of the home opens as the design follows the fall of the terrain toward the rear. A modern residence that connects internally and out to the landscape, Emplacement by NTF Architecture infuses classical proportions and detailing with a contemporary twist.

As a private home that celebrates its intersections with the surrounds, the coming together of heavier masonry elements with glass creates a delicately balanced structure that is both robust and nature focused. Built by Sinjen and sitting among a carefully curated landscape setting by Ben Scott Garden Design, the harder edges of the home are softened by the natural and living additions. As the project’s muse, Como Park is located to the rear and is visually connected to the house through sightlines and materiality. A palette of mostly monochromatic finishes creates a neutral base for the bustle of family life, allowing insertions of personality and colour to activate the interior over the years to come.

Wanting to retain a sense of relevancy and embed a distinction among the other heritage homes, the goal was to elevate how the residence was experienced on a day-to-day basis. Focusing on how finishes and the internal volumes enhance everyday rituals, an avoidance trend-driven styles was implemented early. Constructed from precast concrete panels, the heft of the building stands as testament to the home as a base for the ebbs and flows of life.

Through an emphasised linear approach, Emplacement creates clear openings for free-flowing movement between inside and out. Creating an equally robust and refined offering, NTF Architecture integrates a conscious and sustainable sensibility throughout that is outwardly focused and underpinned by a meditative calm.
