Where Landscape, Art and Design Meet
Estudio Laterna is a thoughtful multidisciplinary space in Ibiza, Spain, where landscape, art and objects exist in dialogue with one another.
In the small village of Santa Gertrudis, Estudio Laterna offers a different way to experience Ibiza. Founded by Andrea Sánchez and Ricardo Jarpa in 2022, Estudio Laterna grew from their years of collaboration in landscape design, architecture and art. The space includes a sculpture garden, art gallery, concept store, two-level bookshop and, at its core, an active landscape architecture practice.
The studio reflects the founders’ shared belief that great design should emerge from observation, sensitivity and long-term thinking.
The impetus behind Estudio Laterna was to forge a holistic creative space where the disciplines of art, architecture and landscape design could exist in dialogue with one another, without a sense of hierarchy. The sculpture garden is at the heart of Estudio Laterna. Paths move gently through native plantings, outdoor sculptures and quiet seating areas. The island’s natural rhythms are central to the garden and the studio’s identity, with seasonal changes, light and textures shaping its philosophy. Visitors are encouraged to spend time in the garden to pause and reflect on deeper ways of inhabiting space.
This approach also extends to the objects and furniture presented in the concept store, many of which are inspired by nature and sit somewhere between art and function. The KOSSMUN outdoor square bench, designed by Estudio Laterna, is a piece of functional sculpture that is both monumental and refined, while the Conic Round Vase highlights clay as an important material that connects to the earth and the history of handmade processes. The wire S seats by Muller Van Severen are made from a fine metal grid that is carefully welded and folded, balancing lightness and strength.
Art exhibitions are an equally important element. The current group show, Beyond form – which runs until 25 March – brings together three artists who reflect on nature through material, texture and time. Maria Bunge creates dreamlike drawings and paintings where botanical, animal and human forms blend; Daniel Salorio Simonet builds sculptures from branches, seeds and cactus skeletons, treating nature as a material archive; while Japanese artist Kaori Yabusaki works with white clay, shaping ceramic forms by hand in a slow, meditative process.
Within the gallery, the Estudio Laterna Bookstore offers another space for reflection. Its shelves are well-stocked with books on landscape architecture, art, design, science, history and poetry, as well as a thoughtful selection for children.
Open year-round, Estudio Laterna welcomes residents, collectors and curious visitors alike. On an island often known for its fast pace, the studio offers something different: a place to slow down, reflect and appreciate design at its most holistic.
