Expanding its Australian base, HAY opens its first Melbourne store, coinciding with the brand’s 20th anniversary and release of its first book, HAY Phaidon. With a vibrant mural on the exterior of the building, the inside of the Melbourne store hosts a wide selection of new and much-loved collections.

Seven years since the first HAY store established a base in Sydney, the Danish brand’s second store – managed and operated by Cult – finds a home in Fitzroy, Melbourne. From the vibrant mural by local artist Jasmine Mansbridge that covers the exterior to the open floor plan inside, HAY Melbourne embodies a retail experience similar to its flagship store in Copenhagen. Alongside a range of new and returning furnishings and accessories, the company also launches its first book, HAY Phaidon.

Upon entry, a retail counter designed by Adam Goodrum – in collaboration with Defy Design, a plastic recycling company – establishes the scene for the new store. Modelled as an apartment, the open floor plan features new releases including the Rey Chair by Bruno Rey, Pao Portable Lamp by Naoto Fukasawa and The Balcony Collection by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec. Premiering alongside the new collections, HAY Melbourne will also host the return of bestsellers About A Chair, Mags Sofa, Colour Crates and the Palissade range.

Coinciding with the Melbourne store opening, HAY has also released its first book, HAY Phaidon, exploring the origins of the brand from its 2002 beginnings. Celebrating HAY’s work with international designers Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec and Muller Van Severen, alongside collaborations such as COS, IKEA, SONOS, the book is the first of its kind for the company. Including over 300 images, essays, interviews and a timeline of HAY’s milestones, HAY Phaidon brings the brand’s philosophy and distinct designs together in one collection
