Ride the elevator to the top floor of the heritage-listed Pacific House in Melbourne’s CBD and you’ll find Her Rooftop – a European-inspired garden terrace in the heart of the city. Designed by Tamsin Johnson and Jackson Clements Burrows Architects, the rooftop bar sits atop a multi-level hospitality venue by HQ Group. The entire building has been conceived as a vertical laneway, with a music room, restaurant and another bar down below.

Back up top, Her Rooftop exudes Tamsin’s eclectic elegance. While contemporary and upbeat, there’s plenty of old-world charm thanks to custom wrought-iron fixtures, upholstered banquette seating with piped detailing and padded stools with soft linen skirts – all in shades of mustard, mint green and rose.

Her Rooftop by Tamsin Johnson is contemporary and upbeat with a generous dose of old-world chamr. It also features a joyful, hand-painted tile mosaic by ceramic artist Eytan Messiah.

A geometric Italian marble floor stretches out underfoot, guiding the eye to the back of the space where a tile mosaic by ceramic artist Eytan Messiah decorates the brick parapet. Inspired by the building’s ornate architectural elements and comprised of Eytan’s joyful hand painted tiles, this feature embodies Her’s vibrant atmosphere. The bright yellow retractable awning provides shelter when needed, as custom lighting from Tamsin, Hervé Descottes and David Caon shifts the tempo while the sun goes down.

Day or night, there’s an infectious liveliness to this space. As a bar that prioritises good design amongst the hallmarks of a great venue, it’s a strong addition to Melbourne’s CBD.
