Home Project by Kimmy Hogan
Artist Kimmy Hogan transforms a humble weatherboard in Geelong into a double-storey family home that oozes individuality, elevated by striking architectural door hardware by Iver.
To turn a small three-bedroom house in East Geelong into a family home with enough room for three rambunctious boys, artist Kimmy Hogan collaborated with local builder ARCA Build and interior designer Your Abode, borrowing their expertise and combining it with her well-trained artistic eye. The result is a two-storey residence that’s charming, quirky and warm, reflecting Hogan’s passion for the authentic and individual.
That artistic eye is evident everywhere, as is Hogan’s eye for a bargain – vintage and second-hand pieces, along with items she picked up from Facebook Marketplace, look equally at home with designer furniture and sophisticated homewares. In the dining room, for example, eight semi-matched second-hand chairs are paired with a table from MCM House and a pendant from Ferm LIVING, while in the open-plan living room, cane chairs – one from IKEA, two vintage – are gorgeous counterpoints to furniture by ELLISON STUDIOS. and textiles from Bonnie and Neil.
Hogan’s artworks, which are dotted throughout the home, also provide inspiration in terms of colour and texture. Large-scale prints – such as Isla I in the living room, Flowerbed IV at the entrance and Dawn in the dining room – swirl with subtle shades of pink, brown and cream, colours that are key to creating the home’s calming ambience. They also blend seamlessly with the timber accents that appear consistently throughout.
Adding immeasurably to the residence’s look and feel is architectural door hardware from Iver. Hogan opted for Iver’s Sarlat collection throughout the home. Blending modern aesthetics with timeless appeal and a French Provincial profile, the range melds beautifully with the home’s free-flowing style and soft palette.
“Architectural hardware was essential in enhancing the home’s character and intrigue,” says Hogan. “We sought classic, high-quality pieces from Iver’s extensive range, which made it easy to select elements for every space – be it the statement front door, cupboard knobs or sliding door handles. They’re all unified in the signature brass finish to create a cohesive look throughout the home.”
The Sarlat Centre Door Knob and Rectangular Backplate Lever, for example, complement the earthy honey browns and natural timber of the interiors. With the Paddington Round Rose Knob and Rectangular Sliding Door Pull, the dark accents create a striking context with the soft orange and cream tones Hogan has used to create comfort and warmth.
Alongside the signature brass finish, the Sarlat collection is also available in brushed gold PVD, polished nickel, satin nickel, distressed nickel, brushed brass, polished brass, matt black, brushed chrome and polished chrome, in levers, pulls and knobs, both visually impactful and practical. This adaptability and cohesion reflect Iver’s whole-of-home approach, allowing designers and homeowners to convey their individual style in any space.
“As every home has a signature style, our ‘Whole-of-Home’ collections allow you to easily discover the perfect expression of your personal style and apply this seamlessly throughout your spaces, with matching levers, pull handles and cabinet ware,” says Emily Bradley, co-CEO of Southern Design Group, Iver’s parent company.
