Basil Bangs
Basil Bangs has released its second Italian-made fabric series, Volume II: Dolomiti Plains, inspired by the team’s exploration of the Veneto region.
Australia’s pre-eminent shade brand Basil Bangs has always been design-led, inspired by place, memory and a commitment to distilling the effortless sophistication of landscape into refined outdoor offerings.
For more than 15 years, the globally lauded brand has built a reputation for creating beautiful umbrellas – both for the home and commercial spaces – and high-performance outdoor furniture, homewares and fabrics, each merging European heritage with Australian soul.
Now comes the brand’s second Italian-made fabric series, Volume II: Dolomiti Plains, inspired by the team journeying to the Veneto region in Italy’s north-east and discovering the lyrical terrain of co-founder Mike Durante’s father’s homeland. As Durante reflects, “The Veneto region is deeply personal, connecting me back to my family roots and the enduring beauty of Italy.”
Designed entirely in-house and woven in Italy at a heritage mill with more than eight decades of expertise, the collection deepens the brand’s ongoing exploration into how colour, texture and technical performance can intertwine.
If Basil Bangs’ Volume I series traced the sunbaked hues of the Aeolian Islands, Volume II’s soft Venetian pinks, alpine greens, weathered clays and moody blues form a palette that speaks to romance and restraint.
Working closely with its Italian mill – a family-run business set within the country’s textile heartland – Basil Bangs has always sought to push the boundaries of what outdoor fabrics can be. This allows for an elevated level of experimentation, particularly evident in its Ombre Collection, where blended yarns and complex cross-weaves create fabrics rich with detail up-close while remaining boldly architectural from afar. The mill’s blend of artisanal sensibility and technical mastery bears the tactile nuance of interior upholstery while withstanding the rigours of Australia’s outdoor conditions.
The Dolomiti Plains palette anchors this next chapter: Rosa, Dusk Blue, Clay and Alpine Green each echo the shifting light across ancient buildings, soft lagoons, lush valleys and mountain rock bathed in the setting sun. Crafted from 100 per cent solution-dyed acrylic, the fabrics offer longevity, water resistance and a UPF50+ rating, ensuring they perform as beautifully as they appear.
True to Basil Bangs’ holistic design ethos, the range extends seamlessly across the brand’s outdoor essentials, from the new, soft-scallop patio umbrellas to cushions, bean bags and deck chairs, as well as custom upholstery by the metre.
With Volume II: Dolomiti Plains, Basil Bangs affirms its belief that outdoor living deserves the same design intentionality as interior spaces – and that fabric, when approached as a medium of storytelling, can bring landscape, craft and contemporary life gently into view.
