Heath Ceramics
Glazed by hand and possessing a surface with subtle shifts, the Arc tile collection from Heath Ceramics represents another leap forward for the esteemed California brand.
Founded in 1948 by Edith and Brian Heath, Heath Ceramics has long stood as a touchstone of Californian design, a brand defined by its unwavering commitment to craft, material integrity and a quietly confident aesthetic. Edith Heath was a visionary whose work shaped mid-century design and redefined the role of ceramics in architecture.
While Edith’s story began with dinnerware, her expansion into architectural tiles in the 1960s marked a pivotal moment, one recognised by the American Institute of Architects with the prestigious Industrial Arts Medal for her work on the Pasadena Art Museum (now the Norton Simon Museum). That spirit of innovation continues today, echoed in the launch of Arc, the brand’s latest tile offering.
Arc captures the intersection of artistry and technical mastery. Glazed entirely by hand, each tile possesses its own unique character, its surface revealing subtle shifts and tonal interplay that recall the work of an individual artist’s brush. Across 10 colourways, two Heath Ceramics glazes – each with distinct qualities of tone, gloss and texture – meet within a graphic arched form to create gradients alive with movement. In the kiln, these glazes interact in ways both precise and unpredictable: some fade into one another with a near-imperceptible softness, while others break apart into striking organic patterns. Installed en masse, the effect is immersive, a rhythmic surface of depth and dynamism.

Beyond its visual appeal, Arc offers remarkable versatility. Tiles can be configured in countless arrangements, paired with Heath Ceramics’ single-glaze Classic Field tiles or combined into custom compositions that reflect the individuality of each space. From intimate residential interiors to expansive commercial settings, Arc lends itself to a breadth of architectural styles and creative visions.
This balance of artistry and utility has been at the heart of Heath Ceramics’ tile program since the 1960s. With a broad selection of shapes – from classics to distinctive designs like Arc, Mural and Stan Bitters – and an extensive library of proprietary glazes, Heath Ceramics offers a depth of choice that few can match. For architects, designers and hospitality professionals, the company’s tile specialists provide hands-on guidance, from shape and glaze selection through to installation logistics, with samples available to inform and inspire.
Arc is more than a new product; it is a continuation of Heath Ceramics’ enduring philosophy that good design marries beauty with purpose, craft with innovation. In the hands of skilled makers, a simple form becomes something far greater: a surface alive with history, artistry and the possibility of transformation.
