Davidov Architects proposes a home of lasting resonance, timeless in its refinement and able to facilitate any changes with ease whilst retaining its original character.

Located in Caufield North, JDF Residence is a comfortable yet distinct addition to the streetscape. Carving a narrative of permanence and modernism, the home is comprised of a mostly masonry base with controlled openings to create a cohesive rhythm between inside and out. Crafting a home that is robust yet intimate, Davidov Architects proposes a home intended to endure.

Endeavouring to harness natural light, a natural connection was a core musing of the brief. Orientation and openings were directed based on the optimisation and control of solar gains and improvement of flow across thresholds to the various garden spaces. The owners wanted to create a forever home, one that would facilitate the anticipated changes of the future. With this in mind, integrating improved movement, ventilation and access to natural light reduces the need for energy reliance.

Surrounding the home are four different landscaped areas, each with their own distinct personalities and nuances. These spaces act as a relief from the interior, becoming outside rooms intended for retreat. The combination of the natural and built contexts also softens the outer edges of the site and the interior volumes flow together with intention – creating an overall boundaryless experience. A reductionist approach ensures a clean aesthetic emerges, avoiding trends and firmly connecting the home to its site. A muted and neutral materiality palette then creates cohesion between inside and out.
