Celebrating the beauty of stone and natural textures, Johnson Residence is softened by a refined and focused palette of materials that combines warmth and refuge. Kritzler+Link ensures an openness flows across the multiple levels, encouraging an outdoor lifestyle to be infused into the everyday experience.

Johnson Residence is nestled into the Sydney suburb of Burraneer, balancing both coastal advantages and a tightly knit and established community. Throughout, a distinctively blush-toned palette is integrated in a versatile manner. The home is both deeply connected to and surrounded by nature, and the materials used within echo this connection. From the rosy blush of rosa calamante, which mirrors the impressive sunset scenes that take place in the area, to the verdant greens of the smeraldo stone that represents the nearby generous lush oak trees, each selected material weaves its own narrative into the existing story of the home.

The home is both deeply connected to and surrounded by nature, and the materials used within echo this connection.

Within the architectural shell designed by MSG Design, Kritzler+Link adds layers of softness and rich depth among the tactile elements. Though integrated with many gestures, the home is more than the sum of its parts – it most importantly reflects those who live within. The gentle and calm atmosphere creates an enveloping composure and stillness, offering a sanctuary to escape the bustling pace of modern life. Connecting to the environment and bringing light inward ensures a reduced reliance on external energy sources and helps complete a more holistic and considered approach to protecting the environment.

The functional underpinning of the home is one of sustainability and eco-consciousness. A fully integrated BASALT home automation system, solar panels, a Tesla power wall, LED lighting controlled by a weather station and engineered flooring support a large system of self-sufficiency. Together with the robustness of the stone, timber is an integral and warming element that runs through the home, facilitating high traffic movement and binding the multiple levels.

Through highlighting the versatility of stone and enhancing access to light throughout, Johnson Residence offers both a tactile and deep personal connection. Together, Kritzler+Link and MSB Design ensure the custom result is one that has a grounded understanding of its impact.
