Tamarama Modular Sofa
From single-seater to seven-seater, Tamarama – the latest sofa design from Australian furniture brand Koala – allows a modular mix and match to suit virtually every life stage and style of home.
Trend-focused furniture design has been filtered through Australia’s famously laidback lens with the launch of Koala’s new Tamarama modular sofa, which combines sleek and sophisticated style with shoes-off, sink-in comfort. “Nowhere does relaxed yet elevated living like Australia, and our goal with the Tamarama was to wholly embody that quality,” says James Whitta, Koala’s chief design officer. “This is a range with softness, both visually and physically, but which still feels intentional and refined.”
Koala’s reputation was built on creating luxuriously comfortable (and competitively priced) mattresses, and its commitment to comfort is equally evident in its extensive sofa range, with Tamarama billed as the cosiest design to date. The sofa walks the line between snugness and support; S-springs supply the durable foundation, overlaid with the pillowy comfort of HyperCloud foam – a feather-free fill that holds its form without fluffing (and won’t poke you with stray feather shafts). “We’re obsessive about comfort – as a business, it’s in our DNA, and I think this is what makes the Tamarama so special,” Whitta says. “It not only looks beautiful but it’s been engineered to feel indulgent for years to come.”
This focus on longevity is expressed not only through long-lasting comfort but also through an emphasis on flexibility. Because every home is different – and because the average home journey takes one through multiple residences – Tamarama’s modular system is designed to meet customers’ needs, even as their life and living spaces change. The design is grounded in the real-world experience of the average customer, who might progress from a compact share flat to a larger forever home, or from a comfy couch for one or two to a palatial sprawl for a growing family.
Single-seater modules (in regular and extra wide) and reversible chaises can be mixed and matched, switched around as the mood strikes, or expanded as one’s needs change. Tool-free assembly via Quick-Slide connectors makes it quick and easy to build and disassemble when moving house, adding new modules or just playing interior ‘dress-ups’ by reconfiguring the living room.
Timelessness was a key design goal – the best furniture investment, after all, is one that lasts – and Tamarama’s aesthetic of contemporary comfort is a look to love for the long haul. It’s a style inspired by relaxed coastal living, but sharp enough to move between sandy beach house and elegant urban apartment – while the new-release curved modules capture a sculptural look that’s at home in the most architectural of spaces.
To keep the sofa looking fresh through all these likely house shifts and life changes, a crucial element of the design is Tamarama’s life-proof covers. The Quick-Slip covers are easy to whip off, and are water-resistant and machine-washable, able to handle the thrills and spills of life. And, when it’s time for a change, it’s easy to switch out the covers for a new look. The launch range features six colours and two Koala exclusive fabrics – Classic, which delivers the elegance of linen in durable, 100 per cent recycled polyester; and Luxe, a wool-like demi-bouclé with a deliciously touchable texture.
Deliciously squashy yet supportive, and above all, aesthetically captivating, the Tamarama range celebrates Koala’s legacy of comfort, while cementing the brand as a style leader.
