Lo Scoglio by Tigmi Trading and owners Angelica and Charlie Arnott is a luxurious sanctuary that combines Sicilian heritage with modern regenerative principles. This estate offers a unique blend of tradition and nature, creating an elegant retreat.

With Byron Bay as its backdrop, Lo Scoglio is designed as an elevated and immersive rural escape. Inspired by Italian-style farmhouses, it offers a serene retreat amid the picturesque hills of Coopers Shoot. The villa accommodates up to 10 guests and includes a one-bedroom studio along with a variety of curated wellness amenities. Lo Scoglio is rooted in principles of craftsmanship, sustainability and heritage, emphasising regenerative landscape farming and a deep connection to the land.

“We view the landscape as a living entity,” says Angelica. “Our regenerative ethos shaped every decision, from reusing materials found on site to collaborating with Dr Patrick MacManaway to honour the spirit of the land. This ensures that the home feels like a natural extension of its environment, not something imposed upon it.” It’s important for the design of Lo Scoglio that all built elements and framed views feel authentic, fostering a sense of belonging. Drawing on her Italian heritage, Angelica looked to traditional Sicilian farmhouse styles and how they interact with the natural surroundings. “The design is a nod to the craftsmanship and authenticity of the farmhouses I grew up visiting in Italy,” she adds. Each material and tone is carefully chosen to evoke a sense of history, creating a place where elements feel like they have a story of their own.

Hand-selected Italian stone was combined with custom marble in the generous fireplaces, accented by rich brass detailing. Each material was chosen for its connection to the past and the owners’ lineage. The substantial stone structure also anchors the residence to the site, while an emphasis on organic, enduring textures makes it feel like a natural part of the landscape. “We selected materials like European oak and aged marble for their timelessness,” says Angelica. “Everything needed to be natural and sustainable, chosen to create a home that feels grounded within its environment.”

The dwelling is designed to feel luxurious while bridging the past and present, inviting guests to appreciate the beauty of the surrounding heritage landscape. Lo Scoglio blends traditional Italianate forms with modern comforts, embodying a commitment to craftsmanship and timelessness.
